Black Brook Watershed
Location:
The Black Brook watershed is in the southern section of Windham. It runs along the eastern side of Route 202, between Route 302 and River Road.
Size:
Black Brook watershed is one of the smallest watersheds in the Presumpscot River watershed system. At approximately 3.9 square miles, it makes up 2% of the Presumpscot River watershed system.
Population:
The population of the Black Brook watershed is a little over 1,000, or 2% of the population in the Presumpscot River watershed system.
Impervious Surfaces:
Impervious surfaces are those surfaces in the landscape that cannot infiltrate rainfall, such as rooftops, pavement, sidewalks, driveways and compacted earth. Impervious surface areas of 10% or greater are often correlated with reduced water quality. Approximately 9% of the Black Brook watershed, more than 200 acres, is comprised of impervious surfaces.
