East Branch Piscataqua River Watershed
Location:
The East Branch Piscataqua River watershed is located primarily in Cumberland and Falmouth, but extends into Yarmouth and North Yarmouth.
Size:
The East Branch Piscataqua River watershed is one of the larger sub-watersheds in the Presumpscot River watershed system. At just under 20 square miles, it makes up about 10% of the Presumpscot River watershed system.
Population:
The population of the East Branch Piscataqua River watershed is a little over 6,000, or 10% of the population in the Presumpscot River watershed system.
Impervious Surfaces:
Impervious surfaces are those surfaces in the landscape that cannot infiltrate rainfall, such as rooftops, pavement, sidewalks, driveways and compacted earth. Impervious surface areas of 10% or greater are often correlated with reduced water quality. Approximately 8% of the East Branch Piscataqua River watershed, more than 900 acres, is comprised of impervious surfaces.
