Presumpscot Watershed Initiative

Implementing Water Quality Improvements to Support Vital Fisheries

Building upon significant improvements in the Presumpscot River over the last decade, the Presumpscot Watershed Initiative (PWI) encompasses a suite of projects that improve water quality, enhance riparian habitat, reduce contaminant loading, and foster increased stewardship among watershed inhabitants.

In 2006, the Presumpscot River Watershed Coalition and the Casco Bay Estuary Partnership were awarded nearly $740,000 through a successful grant application to the U.S. EPA Targeted Watershed Grants Program. The grant was one of twelve funded nationwide out of seventy-four proposals. The PWI concluded in January 2009.
