| Presumpscot Watershed Initiative
The Presumpscot River Youth Conservation Corps is a crew of area high school students that partners with towns, private landowners, and businesses to be good stewards of the land and improve water quality in the Presumpscot River. The crew implements a broad range of environmental improvement projects such as vegetative shoreline buffer plantings, erosion control best management practices, trail maintenance, and clean ups adjacent to rivers, streams, and lakes. Participating communities which lie partially within the watershed include Buxton, Cumberland, Falmouth, Gorham, Gray, North Yarmouth, Portland, Standish, Westbrook, Windham, and Yarmouth. The PRYCC began in 2006 as a cooperative project of the Presumpscot River Watershed Coalition, Cumberland County Soil & Water Conservation District, Casco Bay Estuary Partnership, and Maine Department of Environmental Protection. 2006-2008 funding was provided through the Targeted Watershed Grant program. The PRYCC is continually seeking new sites in need of crew assistance.
